This fascinating route crosses Tuscany from Prato to the coast of Populonia. It is perfect for mountain-bike enthusiasts and offers a unique experience combining natural beauty with the region’s rich Etruscan heritage.
The 200 km Tuscan section can be completed in approximately four days and has a medium-to-difficult level. It will lead you through breathtaking landscapes and important sites linked to Etruscan civilisation, allowing you to immerse yourself in the history and culture of the area.

The Stage from
Artimino to Volterra
Begin your journey in Artimino and follow the route downhill towards Limite sull’Arno before continuing to Empoli. Along the way, you will pass through Montereggi and join the historic Via Francigena, climbing towards San Miniato Alto. Continue to Gambassi Terme and Pieve di Cellole, near San Gimignano, and be captivated by the Castelvecchio Nature Reserve and Monte Voltraio, which will guide you all the way to Volterra. This stage offers an immersive journey through the beauty of the Tuscan countryside and the centuries-old history of these places.

Volterra to Populonia
After exploring Volterra, continue south through the Val di Cecina and tackle a steep climb towards the historic villages of Libbiano, with their castles of Roman origin. Enter the Monterufoli-Caselli Forest Nature Reserve, Tuscany’s largest and most important protected area for biodiversity and its excellent state of conservation. Cross the Poggio Neri Forest Park and reach the medieval village of Suvereto. From here, approach the Tyrrhenian coast and follow the route to the Gulf of Baratti, ending your adventure on the Populonia promontory. This stage allows you to enjoy a wide variety of landscapes, from forest to coastline, while discovering some of Tuscany’s most fascinating places.
